settings – Can I set keyboard shortcuts to a single keystroke in app preferences plists?

I want to set my Mail keyboard shortcuts to single keystroke shortcuts, like how they’re in Gmail. For instance, I need to set the Archive software to only E like in Gmail, however in later macOS variations together with Ventura it isn’t doable to set single-letter shortcuts from throughout the System Settings app.

I used to be questioning if it might work to instantly edit the preferences plist file for Mail, and I’ve discovered it and edited it, however one way or the other even once I save the plist file, System Settings and Mail nonetheless present the default and my shortcut doesn’t work.

Am I doing one thing improper? How do I make the plist’s contents apply to Mail, and the way did the System Settings and Mail menu bar keep the identical (as if there’s another file controlling them)?
